Eligibility

Courses at TRIYA are offered to all secondary students currently enrolled at secondary schools around the Wellington Region. If you’re not eligible but still interested in sailing check out our links page to see what might be on offer for you elsewhere at other Yacht Clubs.

Cost

Sailing is charged by the term no matter what you’re involved in. Currently costs are $130.00 for term Four and $160.00 for terms One and Two. These are subject to change.  Please read below for payment information.

What I Need 

Yourself along with some wet weather gear that will keep you warm out on the water.

Ultimately, the following items are typically part of a dinghy sailor’s gear bag:

• Wetsuit
• Wetsuit booties
• Thermals
• Spray jacket
• Sailing gloves
• Sunglasses
• Hat
• Sunscreen
• Buoyancy aid

There is no need to buy too much gear , however we highly recommend a wetsuit for warmth. A wetsuit for sailing should not be too thick as this will restrict your movement, 2mm is plenty. Also a good idea is a pair of neoprene beach shoes to protect your feet on the launching ramp, and for warmth. These can be purchased for under $10, and wetsuits for around $150, at The Warehouse amongst other places.

The sun can be even stronger when reflected off the water, so please be careful to use sunscreen even on a cloudy day. A hat is useful for both sun protection and warmth. The club provides buoyancy aids which must be worn whenever on the water. We also provide spray jackets.

Payment

Fees are due before or upon commencement of sailing classes. Once we have received your enrolment form and confirmed you can join a TRIYA sailing class, you’re required to pay your fees.  New students are allowed a one day trial session to see if you like it  however after this if you wish to return fees must be paid before doing so. These can be paid by

Other Info

• If for whatever reason a scheduled days sailing is cancelled due to adverse weather conditions or other factors then where possible make up days or classroom sessions will be run. However this may not occur in all cases.
• Payment for term sailing is due before the commencement of classes
• Please make sure to read and sign the consent form on page 2 of the enrolment form. No signature no sailing.
