What is Teams Racing

Team racing, is a popular form of yacht racing worldwide. As opposed to fleet racing where boats are scored on an individual basis, in teams racing teams consisting 3 boats compete together to try and beat an opposing team. As in fleet racing the low point scoring system is used. A boat is awarded points based on the place it finishes a race. For example a boat that finishes 1st earns 1 point, a boat that finishes 2nd earns 2 points, etc. In team racing the winning team is decided by adding together the places of all the boats in each team. The team with the fewest points win.

Teams Racing at TRIYA

Teams racing is one of the two racing avenues you can branch into after recieving your learn to sail certificate at TRIYA. Teams consisting of 6 sailors and 3 boats are formed from schools across Wellington. The main aim each year is for schools to train a team to enter into the lower north island teams racing secondary schools championship held in april.

2010 Teams Racing LNI Champs.

The 2010 Teams Racing Lower North Island Championship was held on the 27th-29th  Mar. It was a fantastic event with 14 teams from the lower north island. Many sailors from TRIYA came down and particiapted in the event. For some it was there first time participating and they learnt alot from the experience! Hopefully we will se you all particiapting Next year.
