Fleet Racing

So you know how to sail now and have your Level 1&2 sailing certificate but aren’t sure where to turn? Well TRIYA is here to help you get your foot in the door. Most Yacht clubs across the country participate in weekly (saturday) club racing . These involve getting yourself into a boat and putting not only your boat handling skills but racing tactis on the water to the test. Fleet racing is the most common form of yacht racing around the globe. Be it going to local saturday sailing, weekend regattas, Nationals and olympic sailing fleet racing is the most likely way you will be racing. We know that alot of you aren’t going to want to go the Olympics just yet so we have created a learn to race squad which can come on down on a saturday afternoon and join in the Evans Bay yacht club racing. As a TRIYA member part of this developmetn squad you can even use one of our speedy race ready 420′s. What a great way to start working your way to a gold medal don’t you think?  Remember it’s not just all fun and games on the water. Since all of your new  TRIYA mates will be down racing as well why not chill on the water or at the club together and have a nice cold coke from the bar? Who ever said sailing was boring.

Racing devlopment squad

If you’re interested in joining saturday club racing and need a helping hand as well as a boat then this is the place for you. You will need to have completed your level 1 and 2 certificate. If you have then talk to the coach about getting down on a saturday if he hasn’t talked to you already

Where & When

Evans Bay Yacht Club at 11:30am for racing starting at 1pm

Aim

Although TRIYA is here to help you devlop your racing skills we only have limited resources. The aim of our saturday racing squad is to try and devlop sailors so that they are comfortable with the rules of racing and how to race . This will eventually leadto TRIYA sailors being able to joi yacht club racing themselves at cubs around Wellington.

Where to from here?

As we said the devlopment squad is our way of trying to get TRIYA memebers into the yacht racing scene. In order to keep going it’s now time to think about getting into your own boat or into a boat with someone else. The website will soon host a number of pages that should help assist sailors and parents in doing this. So for now just hold tight and watch this space.
